Google gave a sneak peek of Android M in this year’s Google I/O conference and Google’s Senior VP Sundar Pichai said that the company had ‘Gone back to basics’ with its new Android version. While Android Lollipop was a visual treat, Android M focuses mainly on polishing existing features and fixing bugs in Lollipop. Currently, the Android M is available as the developer preview on a handful of Nexus devices including the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player, while other Android devices are far from hearing the official announcement.
However, that doesn’t stop the Android fans from getting the taste of Android M on their devices. Even without a developer preview, you can enjoy the Android M goodies like wallpapers, ringtones and system apps on your smartphone. We’ve already shared the Android M wallpapers and ringtone earlier and if you haven’t got the chance to download them, you can grab them from the link below.
If you have an Android device running KitKat and above, you can download and install Android M launcher. Google has totally revamped the launcher on Android M and for the first time after Android 2.x, you’ll see the vertical Android stock launcher again. The Android M launcher lists the apps vertically in alphabetical order with a search bar on the top and also places 4 of the most used apps just below the search bar to enter your favorite apps easily.
Even though the launcher seems simple, Google has integrated powerful features like search which is very useful than you can imagine. The most used apps are also placed below the Google search bar as well which brings down the search time by a great factor. You can also see the vertical navigation in widget window as well. After years of evolution and experimentation, Google has finally realized that the vertical navigation is much more feasible than the horizontal navigation. Moreover, the vertical navigation is suitable for one-handed usage on phablet devices where it is hectic to swipe left and right with one-hand.
