Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were launched a few days back and they’re catching the market attention already. Both these smartphones come with a new feature called Always ON Display which lets you display information like current time and the battery level even when you lock your screen. For a smartphone like Galaxy S7 with an amazing 5.1-inch Quad HD display, this is a cool feature to show-off. Always ON display feature has been seen in Nokia devices as well and now Samsung is bringing it back.
Motorola Active Display is a similar feature introduced by Motorola in its Moto X (1st Gen). It displays the date, time and an icon of any new notifications you receive. This feature was also added by LG and OnePlus to their smartphones. The latest Always ON Display from Samsung packs a bit more features than the existing apps. Samsung claims that this feature won’t drain much of the battery but only time can tell that.
You don’t need to get a Galaxy S7 to have this feature, some third-party developers are already offering this for any Android device. These apps might drain some amount of battery to work. So, if you don’t have a smartphone with a good battery life, you might want to avoid using these apps. So, let’s cut the talk and see these cool apps.
Glance Plus is one of the latest third-party apps in the market which provides the Always ON Display feature. What makes it stand out in the Play Store is the variety of clock faces that you can use, providing more personalization options. You can see some of the clock faces from the below screenshots.
Grab the Glance Plus app from the below download link and then we’ll see how to use it.
How to Use Glance Plus
- Grant permissions to Glance Plus to modify system settings required to refresh the time when the device is locked. This will turn on the Glance Plus clock.
- Glance Plus can also be used to display weather info but this will require you to connect to the Internet and turn on your GPS. Weather display is an optional feature.
- Display Notifications: Notifications such as messages, calls, emails etc. and information from other apps can also be viewed by allowing Notification Access to the app.
- To disable Glance Plus, just press the power button and it will be disabled till you lock your phone again.
